"Strong and Safe"
La Charanga Habanera was created in 1988 by a group of young talented musicians and graduates of art schools in Cuba, to develop a project framed Cuban popular music in the 40 - 50 and meet a commitment in the "Sporting Club" MonteCarlo. The project's success led to extend for five years.
With much effort and dedication the kids have gotten Charanga Habanera identified as a group of Cuban-style salsa's most important through out Latin America, with its catchy beats and its members not only sing but it also choreographed dance songs.
But let's own David Calzado, founder and director of Charanga Habanera which gives his impressions following his recent visit to the TV in Miami.

Doing a bit of history during the early years created the group, shared the stage with internationally recognized figures as Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, Barry White,James Brown, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Charles Aznavour, Jerry Lewis, Kool and the Gang and Whitney Houston. They also recorded their first album with the signature DOM. The performance quality, taste and artistic delivery deserved the praise fromviewers and critics. David Calzado however, is confident of success. It was a constant period staging refine and expand the genres in their repertoire.

With the entry of the 90 ', Cuban popular music began to acknowledge a new way to make a real revolution and impressive melodic-harmonic polyrhythm, which did not escape the sight of David Calzado. His international experience (including his seminal work with the Ritmo Oriental Orchestra), coupled with his boundless energy allowed him to catch up with the moment with young musicians, versatile and wide to enjoy the show concept, including daring choreography involving the whole band . At the same time, timbral changes are made to the entry of new instruments and form what is now known as "mechanics" of Charanga Habanera.
The new start and new recordings are now emerging with the signing of Universal Music-Magic. From the first presentations popularity rises "to the roof." They begin top air long international tours. Charanga Habanera definitely earns a place in the "TEAMCUBA".

In 1998 the prize of the most popular band of the year, with four issues during the period 98-99 at the top of the Radio and Television. In 1999, 2000 and 2001 return to get the same result.
They have toured Japan, Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, United States and NorthAfrica, performing in important venues such as: Festival of Campanile (Italy), Feria del Pacifico (Peru), Hard Rock (Mexico), among other places with great success.

Recently arrived in Cuba, after an exhausting tour of Peru and the United States where presented with their infectious rhythm in Lima, New York, Miami, Tampa, California, Kentucky and Washington during the months of May and June this year. The Charanga Habanera has been nominated for the awards "Latin Grammys" in 2003 with the album "Live in the USA." In 2005 they were nominated for the prize "Latino Pride" in three categories: best video, best album and best group. "Cubadisco" and "Lucas" were two of the awards received by the group.
